Behind the Scenes: Macro Video

I shot some cool macro footage that will be posted on social media soon (you can also find some of it as canvas footage on Spotify). Here’s a short behind the scenes video of me shooting these macro shots in my kitchen! Yes that is a can of compressed air; I’m using it to push around the oil and soap in the bowl of water. Enjoy 😊

Home Decor is out now!

Home Decor is a song based on a concept I thought up years ago: what if you were on hold, but the hold music was so good you didn’t want anyone to answer? Home Decor refers to the department that the caller is waiting to be connected to, and this is the hold music that plays! I hope I achieved my goal, and that when you hear this, you’ll want to stay on hold forever.

Unreleased Track: Masamune

I finished this track in early 2023. I got it mastered and had my longtime collaborator Evan Ohl make some fantastic art for it. I planned to release it, but ultimately decided it didn’t fit with the rest of the music I was making at the time. I still think it’s a great track, and I am excited to share it with you now!

This song has a few main themes. The first is games; I grew up loving video games, and I’ve been playing go, the ancient Chinese strategy game, for over 2 decades. It’s also about game addiction, and how video games have a dark side too. I really hope you enjoy it! This song is not released anywhere else. If you like it, email me and let me know at neal@wavecollector.com

Sixty Day Song Challenge: No End

I made this song back in 2020 when I participated in a 60 day song challenge that a friend of mine organized. The goal was to write a song every day for 60 days. I wrote a song for all 60 days, and some really interesting stuff came out of it! There were many days where I felt sick of writing more songs and decided to just experiment with something weird.

There was spoken word, country, screeching noises, and even recording various cooking appliances in my house. However for this one, I was feeling relaxed and excited to do something more in line with my normal style. I called it “No End,” evoking a sort of eternity. Hope you enjoy it!

Home Decor comes out on Friday, December, 29th!

My newest single, Home Decor, is coming out on Friday, December 29th! Very excited for you to hear it! It is the first in a new series of songs inspired by hold music. Check out the amazing album art by longtime collaborator and amazing designer, Evan Ohl:

Hey everyone! I’ve got a new single coming out on March 1st on all kinds of platforms. It’s called “One Way In” and is one of my more experimental tracks. I really hope you enjoy it!

Secondly, I am realizing that I should really take advantage of this blog more, and my mailing list! I will be sending out more updates in a more casual manner than before. Previously, I may only send out an email when I had a new single. Now, without being incredibly annoying, I may just pop in to say “hi” and tell you what’s up in my life. Sometimes it’s actually nothing to do with music because, well, life happens.

At the very least I am going to post the new track here when it comes out on March 1st! Anyways, love you all!

Wave Games is Out!

I’m so excited to announce that my 2nd full-length LP, Wave Games, is out on vinyl, digital, and streaming platforms! Wave Games is an album inspired by the ancient Chinese board game, Go. Each track is inspired by a famous go game or go problem.

I’m also excited to announce that I have just launched my Shopify store! You can buy all of my vinyl and merch from my shop.

In other news, I’ve decided that I want to try to put out music much more often. I have found myself delaying releases by trying to set future release dates, wait for vinyl to press, and promote launches ahead of time. I really enjoy making music and I want to get more music out into the world more quickly! So look forward to more singles being dropped from here on out.

I hope you enjoy the new album! It’s a labor of love and I can’t wait for you to see how great the vinyl edition looks. The vinyl is a limited run of 180, so get yours now if you want that sweet wax. If you want to hear the digital version, you can stream it on Spotify or buy on Apple Music, Amazon, and many other platforms.

Thanks to everyone who’s supported my over the years. Here’s to many more releases!

New Website Launched

Wave Collector, April 2019. Photo by Jason Quigley

Hello everyone and welcome to the new Wave Collector website! In an attempt to move away from social media, I’ve set up this blog as a way to show what’s going on in my life without having to deal with the algorithms, restrictions, and endless scrolling of social media.

If you’re interested to learn more, check out Irresistable by Adam Alter. I’m looking forward to sharing more with you here on my own page! I plan to treat it like my Instagram or Facebook feed. But instead of a giant tech company deciding what you see, you can come here and see my content specifically, if you want to. Thanks for being here and for supporting me!

Cheers,
Wave Collector
